Overview
ReadBible ("we", "us", or "our") operates readbible.space. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. This policy applies to all features of ReadBible, including account-based features (bookmarks, notes, prayer wall, blessing wall) and anonymous features (daily verses, quizzes, reading plans).
Data We Collect
We collect the following categories of data: • Authentication Data: When you sign in with Google OAuth, we receive your Google account email address and display name. We do not request access to your Google contacts, emails, or other Google data. • User Content: Bookmarks, personal notes, prayer requests, and blessing wall entries that you choose to create. These are stored in our Supabase database linked to your account. • Analytics Data: We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site. This includes page views, session duration, approximate geographic location (country/city derived from IP address), browser type, and device information. IP addresses are processed by these providers under their respective data processing agreements. • Local Data: Reading plan progress, language preferences, and some bookmarks/notes are also stored locally in your browser via localStorage.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data to: • Provide and improve the features you use (bookmarks, notes, prayers, blessings) • Understand how the site is used (analytics) to improve user experience • Maintain and secure the service • Detect and prevent abuse or fraudulent activity We do NOT sell your personal information. We do NOT share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Authentication & Third-Party Services
ReadBible uses the following third-party services that may process your data: • Google OAuth (authentication provider): Processes your email and profile name when you sign in. Google's Privacy Policy applies. See policies.google.com/privacy. • Supabase (database & authentication backend): Stores your bookmarks, notes, prayers, and blessings. Supabase is GDPR-compliant. See supabase.com/privacy. • Google Analytics: Collects anonymous usage data. See policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. • Microsoft Clarity: Records anonymous session replays and heatmaps. See clarity.microsoft.com/privacy. These providers may transfer data outside the EEA/UK under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
User-Generated Content Visibility
Content you post to the Blessing Wall and Prayer Wall may be visible to other users. Do not post personal information, sensitive data, or content you do not want others to see. Your private notes and bookmarks are only visible to you when logged in.
Data Retention
Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months and by Microsoft Clarity for up to 18 months. Your user content (bookmarks, notes, prayers, blessings) is retained as long as your account is active. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at privacy@readbible.space.
Cookies
We use the following categories of cookies: Strictly Necessary: NEXT_LOCALE (language preference, 1 year), cookie-consent (consent record, localStorage). Analytics: _ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics, 2 years), _clck, _clsk, MUID (Microsoft Clarity, 1 year/session). You can manage cookies via our cookie consent banner or your browser settings. Your Rights — GDPR (EU/UK)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR, you have the right to: • Access the personal data we hold about you • Rectify inaccurate data • Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten") • Restrict or object to processing • Data portability • Withdraw consent at any time Legal basis: Article 6(1)(a) consent for analytics and authentication; Article 6(1)(f) legitimate interest for service security and abuse prevention. Your Rights — CCPA (California)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to: • Know what personal information is collected about them • Request deletion of their personal information • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information • Non-discrimination for exercising their rights We do not sell personal information. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
ReadBible is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The service is intended for users aged 13 and older. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us immediately so we can delete the account and all associated data.
Data Security
We use HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data transmission. Access to user data is restricted and managed through Supabase Row Level Security (RLS) policies. Despite these measures, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
