Holy Bible/Romans/Chapter 10

Romans Chapter 10

KJV — King James Version · 21 verses

1

Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

Spiritual Insight

Paul's prayer is so simple and so deep — he just wants his people to be saved. No agenda, no theological point-scoring, just love poured out in prayer.

2

For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

Spiritual Insight

Zeal without knowledge is like a fire without a hearth — it burns hot but directionless. Passion matters, but it needs truth to aim it.

3

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Spiritual Insight

This is the tragedy of self-righteousness — in trying to build our own ladder to God, we walk right past the one He already lowered.

4

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Spiritual Insight

Christ is the finish line and the starting gun. The law pointed toward Him, and faith in Him completes what the law could only hint at.

5

For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

Spiritual Insight

Moses laid it out plainly — do the law, live by the law. The problem is nobody actually does it perfectly. The standard is real, and so is our failure.

6

But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

Spiritual Insight

Faith doesn't ask us to climb up to heaven or perform some impossible feat. It whispers — you don't need to reach up; He already came down.

7

Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

Spiritual Insight

You don't need to descend into the abyss either. Christ has already been there and back. The distance between you and salvation is zero.

8

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Spiritual Insight

The word is near you — in your mouth, in your heart. God didn't hide salvation somewhere unreachable; He placed it as close as your own breath.

9

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Spiritual Insight

Such a simple formula — mouth and heart, confess and believe. Not a complicated ritual, not a years-long pilgrimage. Just honest words from a trusting heart.

10

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Spiritual Insight

Heart belief and spoken confession — they go together like roots and fruit. One is hidden, the other visible, and both are essential.

11

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Spiritual Insight

Shame is the great fear of every human heart. This verse says trust in Him and shame evaporates. Not because you're impressive, but because He is.

12

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

Spiritual Insight

No favorites, no VIP line, no ethnic fast track. The same Lord is generous to everyone who calls. That's the most equal opportunity offer in history.

13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Spiritual Insight

Whoever — that word carries universality, inclusivity, hope. No matter who you are, the door opens when you call.

14

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Spiritual Insight

A beautiful chain of necessity — believe, hear, preach, send. Every link matters. Someone shared the gospel with you because someone sent them.

15

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Spiritual Insight

Beautiful feet — not because they're manicured, but because they carry good news. In God's economy, the messengers are gorgeous simply because of the message.

16

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

Spiritual Insight

Not everyone says yes to good news. Isaiah saw it coming — the message goes out, but belief isn't automatic. That's the painful reality of love with free will.

17

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Spiritual Insight

Faith has a source — hearing the word of Christ. It's not willpower or positive thinking. It grows from encountering what God has actually said.

18

But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

Spiritual Insight

The message has gone everywhere — Paul quotes the psalm to say the whole world has heard. The real question isn't availability; it's willingness.

19

But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

Spiritual Insight

God will use those outside the covenant to provoke those inside. Jealousy as a tool of grace — God will stoop to any means to get our attention.

20

But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

Spiritual Insight

Found by those who weren't even looking. That's grace — it ambushes you in the best possible way. God reveals Himself to people who never asked.

21

But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Spiritual Insight

Meanwhile, God stretches out His hands all day long to a stubborn people. He doesn't give up, even when He's rejected. That's stubborn love.
