約伯記 第 3

此 後， 約 伯 開 口 咒 詛 自 己 的 生 日，

After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

說 ：

And Job spake, and said,

願 我 生 的 那 日 和 說 懷 了 男 胎 的 那 夜 都 滅 沒。

Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

願 那 日 變 為 黑 暗 ； 願 神 不 從 上 面 尋 找 他 ； 願 亮 光 不 照 於 其 上。

Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

願 黑 暗 和 死 蔭 索 取 那 日 ； 願 密 雲 停 在 其 上 ； 願 日 蝕 恐 嚇 他。

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

願 那 夜 被 幽 暗 奪 取， 不 在 年 中 的 日 子 同 樂， 也 不 入 月 中 的 數 目。

As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

願 那 夜 沒 有 生 育， 其 間 也 沒 有 歡 樂 的 聲 音。

Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.

願 那 咒 詛 日 子 且 能 惹 動 鱷 魚 的 咒 詛 那 夜。

Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.

願 那 夜 黎 明 的 星 宿 變 為 黑 暗， 盼 亮 卻 不 亮， 也 不 見 早 晨 的 光 線 （ 原 文 是 眼 皮 ） ；

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

因 沒 有 把 懷 我 胎 的 門 關 閉， 也 沒 有 將 患 難 對 我 的 眼 隱 藏。

Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.

我 為 何 不 出 母 胎 而 死 ？ 為 何 不 出 母 腹 絕 氣 ？

Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

為 何 有 膝 接 收 我 ？ 為 何 有 奶 哺 養 我 ？

Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?

不 然， 我 就 早 已 躺 臥 安 睡，

For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

和 地 上 為 自 己 重 造 荒 邱 的 君 王 、 謀 士，

With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;

或 與 有 金 子 、 將 銀 子 裝 滿 了 房 屋 的 王 子 一 同 安 息 ；

Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:

或 像 隱 而 未 現 、 不 到 期 而 落 的 胎， 歸 於 無 有， 如 同 未 見 光 的 嬰 孩。

Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.

在 那 裡 惡 人 止 息 攪 擾， 困 乏 人 得 享 安 息，

There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

被 囚 的 人 同 得 安 逸， 不 聽 見 督 工 的 聲 音。

There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.

大 小 都 在 那 裡 ； 奴 僕 脫 離 主 人 的 轄 制。

The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

受 患 難 的 人 為 何 有 光 賜 給 他 呢 ？ 心 中 愁 苦 的 人 為 何 有 生 命 賜 給 他 呢 ？

Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

他 們 切 望 死， 卻 不 得 死 ； 求 死， 勝 於 求 隱 藏 的 珍 寶。

Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;

他 們 尋 見 墳 墓 就 快 樂， 極 其 歡 喜。

Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

人 的 道 路 既 然 遮 隱， 神 又 把 他 四 面 圍 困， 為 何 有 光 賜 給 他 呢 ？

Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?

我 未 曾 吃 飯 就 發 出 歎 息 ； 我 唉 哼 的 聲 音 湧 出 如 水。

For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

因 我 所 恐 懼 的 臨 到 我 身， 我 所 懼 怕 的 迎 我 而 來。

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

我 不 得 安 逸， 不 得 平 靜， 也 不 得 安 息， 卻 有 患 難 來 到。

I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
