保 羅 、 西 拉 、 提 摩 太 寫 信 給 帖 撒 羅 尼 迦 在 神 我 們 的 父 與 主 耶 穌 基 督 裡 的 教 會。
Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

這封信以真實的名字開始——保羅、西拉、提摩太——寫給真實教會中的真實的人。信仰不是抽象的；它是在有真實面孔和故事的群體中活出的。

Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

弟 兄 們， 我 們 該 為 你 們 常 常 感 謝 神， 這 本 是 合 宜 的 ； 因 你 們 的 信 心 格 外 增 長， 並 且 你 們 眾 人 彼 此 相 愛 的 心 也 都 充 足。
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

保羅真心感恩——不是虛假的感謝，而是被他們增長的信心和加添的愛深深感動。上一次某人的屬靈成長讓你的心充滿感恩是什麼時候？
甚 至 我 們 在 神 的 各 教 會 裡 為 你 們 誇 口， 都 因 你 們 在 所 受 的 一 切 逼 迫 患 難 中， 仍 舊 存 忍 耐 和 信 心。
So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

他們在逼迫中的忍耐成了保羅誇口的事。苦難不只是顯露品格——它可以成為激勵遠超我們所能看見之人的見證。
這 正 是 神 公 義 判 斷 的 明 證， 叫 你 們 可 算 配 得 神 的 國 ； 你 們 就 是 為 這 國 受 苦。
Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

為神的國受苦不是沒有意義的——它是神公義判斷的明證。痛苦和目的不總是對立的；有時苦難正是證明我們屬於永恆之事的東西。
神 既 是 公 義 的， 就 必 將 患 難 報 應 那 加 患 難 給 你 們 的 人 ；
Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

安息即將到來。對每一個在患難中的人，當耶穌顯現時就有得安息的應許。在最黑暗的時刻，這個盼望就像燈塔——雖遠卻真實。

In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

神的公義有嚴肅的一面——它降臨在那些拒絕認識祂、拒絕祂邀請的人身上。福音是好消息，但忽視它會帶來真實的後果。

Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

當耶穌再來時，祂要在聖徒身上得榮耀，被所有信的人所羨慕。平凡信徒的忠心將成為祂榮耀展現的一部分。那令人驚嘆。
因 此， 我 們 常 為 你 們 禱 告， 願 我 們 的 神 看 你 們 配 得 過 所 蒙 的 召， 又 用 大 能 成 就 你 們 一 切 所 羨 慕 的 良 善 和 一 切 因 信 心 所 做 的 工 夫 ；
Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

保羅的禱告很具體——願神看他們配得，成全他們對良善的渴望，用大能成就他們信心的工夫。禱告不是模糊的；它以真實的盼望對準真實的需要。
叫 我 們 主 耶 穌 的 名 在 你 們 身 上 得 榮 耀， 你 們 也 在 他 身 上 得 榮 耀， 都 照 著 我 們 的 神 並 主 耶 穌 基 督 的 恩。
That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

目標不是我們的榮耀——而是耶穌透過我們得榮耀，我們也在祂裡面得榮耀。這是一種只有在恩典中才可能實現的榮耀互相內住。多美的交換。
