Romans 第 8

KJV — King James Version · 39

1

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Spiritual Insight

No condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Those might be the most freeing words ever written. The gavel has been put down permanently.

2

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Spiritual Insight

The law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. One law overpowers another — life overpowers death.

3

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Spiritual Insight

The law was weakened by the flesh, so God sent His own Son in human form to deal with sin. He did what we couldn't do for ourselves.

4

That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Spiritual Insight

The righteous requirement of the law is fulfilled in us who walk by the Spirit. Not by trying harder, but by walking with a different Companion.

5

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Spiritual Insight

Those who live by the flesh set their minds on fleshly things; those who live by the Spirit set their minds on spiritual things. Your focus determines your direction.

6

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Spiritual Insight

The mind governed by the flesh is death; the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. Two mindsets, two destinations — choose carefully.

7

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Spiritual Insight

The fleshly mind is hostile to God — it can't submit to His law and doesn't even want to. Rebellion isn't just behavior; it's a posture of the heart.

8

So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Spiritual Insight

Those in the flesh cannot please God. It's not that they try and fail — it's that their whole framework is oriented the wrong direction.

9

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Spiritual Insight

You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone doesn't have the Spirit, they don't belong to Christ. The Spirit is the mark of belonging.

10

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Spiritual Insight

If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin but the Spirit is alive because of righteousness. A living spirit in a dying body — that's the current reality.

11

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Spiritual Insight

The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you and will give life to your mortal body. Resurrection power isn't just for Jesus — it's for you too.

12

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

Spiritual Insight

We have an obligation — not to the flesh, not to live according to it. The only debt we owe is the debt of love, not the debt of sinful desires.

13

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Spiritual Insight

If you live by the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Dying to self is the paradoxical path to life.

14

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Spiritual Insight

Those led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. It's not about perfection — it's about direction. Are you being led, or are you wandering?

15

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Spiritual Insight

You didn't receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but the Spirit of adoption — calling God 'Abba, Father.' That's intimacy, not distance.

16

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Spiritual Insight

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Deep inside, something confirms what words can't fully express — you belong to Him.

17

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Spiritual Insight

If children, then heirs — co-heirs with Christ, if we share in His sufferings. The inheritance is certain, but the path includes sharing His pain.

18

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Spiritual Insight

Present sufferings aren't worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed. The pain is real but temporary; the glory is real and eternal.

19

For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Spiritual Insight

Creation itself is waiting eagerly for the children of God to be revealed. The whole universe is holding its breath for what's coming.

20

For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

Spiritual Insight

Creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice but by God's, in hope. Even the curse came with a promise attached.

21

Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Spiritual Insight

Creation will be liberated from decay into the glorious freedom of God's children. The whole world is part of the redemption story.

22

For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Spiritual Insight

All creation groans like a woman in labor — pain with a purpose. The world's suffering isn't meaningless; it's the birth pangs of something new.

23

And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Spiritual Insight

We too groan inwardly, waiting for our adoption — the redemption of our bodies. Even believers feel the tension of the already-but-not-yet.

24

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

Spiritual Insight

We're saved by hope — but hope that's seen isn't hope. Who hopes for what they already have? Faith is trusting what you can't yet see.

25

But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Spiritual Insight

If we hope for what we don't see, we wait for it with patience. Patience isn't passive — it's active trust in the dark.

26

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Spiritual Insight

The Spirit helps us in our weakness — we don't even know how to pray, but the Spirit intercedes with wordless groans. When you can't find words, the Spirit prays for you.

27

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Spiritual Insight

God searches the heart and knows the mind of the Spirit, who intercedes according to God's will. Even your inarticulate prayers are heard and translated.

28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Spiritual Insight

All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Not all things are good, but God weaves them into something good.

29

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Spiritual Insight

God foreknew and predestined His people to be conformed to the image of His Son. The destination isn't just heaven — it's becoming like Jesus.

30

Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Spiritual Insight

Called, justified, glorified — a golden chain of grace. Each link is held by God, and none can be broken. From start to finish, it's His work.

31

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Spiritual Insight

If God is for us, who can be against us? It's not a rhetorical flourish — it's the most powerful security guarantee in the universe.

32

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Spiritual Insight

He who didn't spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all — how will He not also give us everything else? The cross is the proof that God holds nothing back.

33

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

Spiritual Insight

Who will bring any charge against God's chosen? It is God who justifies. The court has already ruled in your favor — no appeal can overturn it.

34

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Spiritual Insight

Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus who died, was raised, and sits at God's right hand, interceding for us. Your defense attorney is also the Judge.

35

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Spiritual Insight

Who shall separate us from Christ's love? Trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword? Paul lists the worst and says 'still no.'

36

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Spiritual Insight

We face death all day long, considered as sheep for slaughter. The reality is harsh — but it's not the final word.

37

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Spiritual Insight

In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Not just survivors — more than conquerors. The victory isn't barely won; it's overwhelming.

38

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Spiritual Insight

Paul is convinced — neither death nor life, angels nor demons, present nor future, can separate us. He's thought about it carefully and the answer is 'nothing.'

39

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Spiritual Insight

Neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation will separate us from God's love in Christ Jesus. The door is locked from the inside — by love.
