Revelation 第 9
KJV — King James Version · 21 節
And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
Spiritual Insight
A star fallen from heaven receives the key to the abyss — even fallen beings operate within God's permission. No evil power acts independently; even the abyss has a lock that God controls.
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
Spiritual Insight
Smoke rises like from a massive furnace, darkening the sun and sky — the abyss releases its darkness into creation. Evil's first effect isn't always destruction; sometimes it's simply blinding.
And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
Spiritual Insight
Locusts with scorpion power emerge from the smoke — twisted creatures for a twisted purpose. When the abyss opens, what comes out is never neutral; it always carries a sting.
And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
Spiritual Insight
They were told not to harm the grass or trees, only those without God's seal — protection is precise. The seal on your forehead marks the boundary that evil cannot cross.
And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
Spiritual Insight
Torment for five months but not death — a limited sentence, painful but not fatal. Even in judgment, God sets boundaries; the enemy's cruelty is leashed by divine mercy.
And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
Spiritual Insight
People will seek death but won't find it — torment so severe that death feels like mercy. This is the cruel irony: rejecting the Giver of Life leads to longing for death as relief.
And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
Spiritual Insight
Locusts shaped like war horses with gold crowns and human faces — a horrifying hybrid of beauty and terror. Deception often wears a crown; not everything that shines is from God.
And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
Spiritual Insight
Hair like women, teeth like lions — allure and ferocity combined in one creature. The enemy's most effective attacks come wrapped in something that looks gentle but bites hard.
And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
Spiritual Insight
Iron breastplates and wings sounding like charging chariots — the sound of war fills the air. Sometimes the most terrifying thing isn't what you see but what you hear approaching.
And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
Spiritual Insight
Scorpion tails with stingers, power to torment for five months — limited authority with a clear expiration. Every weapon of the enemy has an expiry date set by God.
And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
Spiritual Insight
Their king is the angel of the abyss, called Abaddon in Hebrew and Apollyon in Greek — both names mean 'Destroyer.' Evil has a hierarchy, but even its king serves God's larger purposes.
One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
Spiritual Insight
One woe is past; two more are coming — a brief pause between waves of judgment. Even in the pauses, there's no real relief, only the dread of what's next. Now is the time for repentance.
And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
Spiritual Insight
A voice from the golden altar's four horns — the same altar where prayers ascend now issues a command for judgment. The prayers of the saints and God's justice are connected more than we realize.
Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
Spiritual Insight
Release the four angels bound at the Euphrates — even fallen angels are restrained until their appointed time. God's timing for judgment is as precise as a calendar appointment.
And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
Spiritual Insight
Prepared for a specific hour, day, month, and year to kill a third of humanity — divine precision in judgment. Nothing is random; every detail is calibrated by the One who numbers your days.
And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
Spiritual Insight
Two hundred million horsemen — an army beyond counting, assembled for a specific moment. The scale of spiritual warfare dwarfs anything we can imagine on earth.
And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
Spiritual Insight
Horses with lion heads breathing fire, smoke, and sulfur — a nightmare vision of devastating power. The combination of animal instinct and supernatural destruction paints a chilling picture.
By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
Spiritual Insight
A third of humanity killed by fire, smoke, and sulfur from the horses' mouths — words become weapons. What proceeds from the mouth can either bless or annihilate, and these mouths were made for destruction.
For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
Spiritual Insight
Their power is in their mouth and their tail — attack from both ends, no safe approach. Evil's most dangerous quality is its ability to wound you coming and going.
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
Spiritual Insight
The survivors still didn't repent of their idolatry — judgment alone doesn't soften a hard heart. Plagues can change circumstances but only grace can change a heart stubbornly bent on its own way.
Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
Spiritual Insight
They didn't repent of murders, sorceries, sexual immorality, or thefts — a catalog of human brokenness. Sin is not just one thing; it's an ecosystem of rebellion that requires deep, systemic repentance.
