Revelation 第 2
KJV — King James Version · 29 節
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
Spiritual Insight
Jesus walks among the lampstands and holds the stars — He is not a distant landlord but an ever-present shepherd. He knows exactly where your church and your heart stand today.
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
Spiritual Insight
Jesus sees your hard work and patience — He notices when you stand firm against what's wrong. Your quiet faithfulness doesn't escape His attention, even when nobody else applauds.
And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Spiritual Insight
Endurance for His name's sake without giving up — that's no small thing. Weariness is real, but so is the One who sees every hour you've persisted when it would've been easier to quit.
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Spiritual Insight
All the right deeds couldn't cover the one thing missing — they had left their first love. Busyness for God is never a substitute for intimacy with God. He wants your heart, not just your hustle.
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Spiritual Insight
Remember, repent, repeat the first works — a gentle three-step path back home. God doesn't shame you for drifting; He simply asks you to remember where you fell and start again.
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
Spiritual Insight
Hating what God hates is commended here — there is a place for holy distaste. Not everything called 'tolerance' aligns with God's heart, and discernment is a gift worth cultivating.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Spiritual Insight
The tree of life awaits those who overcome — not a distant myth, but a real promise rooted in Eden itself. Your struggles today are leading somewhere eternally green and alive.
And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
Spiritual Insight
To Smyrna, Jesus introduces Himself as the one who was dead and is now alive — the perfect comfort for a church facing death. He's already walked through what you fear most.
I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus sees their poverty but calls them rich — the world's measuring stick and God's are completely different. You may feel lacking, but in His eyes, you might be wealthier than you realize.
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Spiritual Insight
Don't fear suffering — be faithful even to death, and He promises a crown of life. This isn't a prosperity gospel; it's a prison gospel, and it's far more resilient and beautiful.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Spiritual Insight
The second death has no power over the overcomer — that's the ultimate freedom. When you know the worst that can happen has already been defeated, courage comes naturally.
And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
Spiritual Insight
Pergamos receives a letter from the One with the sharp double-edged sword — truth that cuts both ways. He doesn't come with fuzzy sentiment but with precise, loving truth.
I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
Spiritual Insight
They held fast to His name even where Satan's throne was — faithfulness in hostile territory is especially precious. Your location doesn't determine your loyalty; your heart does.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
Spiritual Insight
Compromise had crept in through the teaching of Balaam — mixing truth with idolatry. It's a gentle warning: even good communities can harbor dangerous ideas if nobody speaks up.
So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.
Spiritual Insight
The Nicolaitan doctrine is mentioned again — some teachings persistently return unless firmly addressed. Tolerance of error is not the same as grace toward people.
Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
Spiritual Insight
Repent, or He will fight against them with the sword of His mouth — Jesus battles falsehood with truth, never with cruelty. His warning itself is an act of mercy, giving time to turn.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
Spiritual Insight
Hidden manna, a white stone, a new name known only to you and God — these are deeply personal gifts. Overcoming isn't about public applause; it's about an intimate secret between you and your Savior.
And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
Spiritual Insight
To Thyatira, Jesus comes as the Son of God with eyes of fire and feet of brass — penetrating sight and firm footing. He sees the mixture of good and bad with absolute clarity.
I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
Spiritual Insight
Their last works were more than the first — they were growing, improving, getting better. Jesus notices your spiritual growth trajectory, and He delights when your love deepens over time.
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
Spiritual Insight
Tolerating Jezebel's false teaching was their downfall — sometimes love without boundaries becomes enabling. True leadership protects the flock, even when it means confronting the uncomfortable.
And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
Spiritual Insight
God gave her time to repent — He is astonishingly patient, not eager to punish. Every day He delays judgment is another day of mercy extended to you and to those around you.
Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
Spiritual Insight
A bed of sickness for the unrepentant — consequences are real, but so is the escape hatch of repentance. God's severity is always paired with an open door back to Him.
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Spiritual Insight
He searches the kidneys and hearts — nothing is hidden from His gaze. This might feel intimidating, but it's also comforting: He knows your motives even when others misunderstand you.
But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
Spiritual Insight
To those who didn't follow the false teaching, He says 'no other burden' — He doesn't pile on unnecessary weight. His yoke is easy because He protects the faithful from extra loads.
But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
Spiritual Insight
Hold fast what you have until He comes — sometimes faithfulness is simply stubbornly keeping what you've already been given. You don't always need a new revelation; just don't let go of the old one.
And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
Spiritual Insight
Authority over nations is promised to the overcomer — your current struggles are training for future responsibility. God doesn't waste your pain; He's preparing you for something weighty.
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
Spiritual Insight
Ruling with a rod of iron sounds harsh, but it's the same authority Christ received from His Father. Shared reign means shared responsibility — He trusts you with real power one day.
And I will give him the morning star.
Spiritual Insight
The morning star — Jesus Himself is the gift. Beyond all rewards and crowns, the ultimate prize is simply more of Him. He is both the giver and the gift.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
Spiritual Insight
One more call to hear what the Spirit says — this refrain repeats because we are so prone to deafness. He who has ears, let him hear: the Spirit is still speaking to the churches.
