Proverbs 第 4
KJV — King James Version · 27 節
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
Spiritual Insight
A father's instruction is a gift passed from one generation to the next. When you listen to those who've walked before you, you gain the benefit of their miles.
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
Spiritual Insight
Good doctrine isn't restrictive — it's protective. The teachings you've received are a compass, not a cage, pointing you toward the life you were meant to live.
For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
Spiritual Insight
Solomon remembers what it felt like to be a tender, beloved child — and that memory shapes how he teaches. Love remembered becomes love passed on.
He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
Spiritual Insight
David's instruction to young Solomon was simple yet profound: hold onto these words and live. The most life-changing advice is often the most straightforward.
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Spiritual Insight
There's an urgency in this repetition — get wisdom, don't forget it! It's as if Solomon is saying: this is the one thing you absolutely cannot afford to lose.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
Spiritual Insight
Love wisdom and she'll protect you — it's a relationship, not just a skill. Wisdom responds to your affection and guards you like a devoted friend.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Spiritual Insight
If there's one thing to pursue above all else, it's wisdom. Make it your primary acquisition — everything else you get means little without understanding to go with it.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
Spiritual Insight
Embrace wisdom and she'll lift you up — she promotes those who prize her. It's not about climbing the ladder yourself; it's about holding onto something that elevates you.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
Spiritual Insight
Wisdom places a crown of glory on your head — she beautifies your life in ways others can see. People notice when someone walks in godly understanding.
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
Spiritual Insight
Receiving wise words adds years to your life — not as magic, but as a principle. Living wisely reduces the damage that foolish choices inflict on body and soul.
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
Spiritual Insight
A good teacher doesn't just point the way — they walk it with you. Solomon says he's led on right paths, which means he's gone first to make sure the road is safe.
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Spiritual Insight
Wisdom removes the obstacles that trip you up — your path opens up and your running becomes free. God's guidance makes the way forward smoother than you'd expect.
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
Spiritual Insight
Take hold of instruction and don't let go — she is your very life. This isn't about being book-smart; it's about clinging to what keeps your soul alive and thriving.
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
Spiritual Insight
The best way to avoid the path of the wicked is to simply not enter it. You don't need to explore evil to know it's harmful — sometimes avoidance is the wisest strategy.
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
Spiritual Insight
Four warnings in a row: avoid it, don't pass by, turn from it, go another way. When God repeats Himself, it's because the danger is real and close.
For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
Spiritual Insight
Wicked people can't even sleep unless they've done harm — evil has become their rest. What a tragic state: when wrongdoing becomes as natural as breathing.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
Spiritual Insight
They feed on wickedness and drink violence — evil has become their daily sustenance. It's a powerful image of how sin can become a diet that nourishes destruction.
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
Spiritual Insight
The path of the righteous keeps getting brighter — it's a journey of increasing clarity and hope. With every step forward, the light grows stronger and the way becomes clearer.
The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
Spiritual Insight
In contrast, the wicked stumble in darkness and don't even know what tripped them. Without God's light, the obstacles remain invisible until it's too late.
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Spiritual Insight
Pay attention and incline your ear — Solomon is saying this like it matters more than anything. When someone repeats 'listen,' it usually means they're about to say something crucial.
Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
Spiritual Insight
Don't let these words drift away — keep them centered in your heart. God's wisdom is meant to be the focal point of your inner life, not a passing thought.
For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Spiritual Insight
These words are life and health — literally medicine for your whole being. God's truth doesn't just correct you; it heals and sustains you from the inside out.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Spiritual Insight
Guard your heart above all else — everything you do flows from it. Your heart is the wellspring of your life; protect it, and everything downstream stays pure.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Spiritual Insight
Clean up your speech — put away corrupt and deceitful words. Your mouth reveals what's in your heart, so let your words be honest and kind.
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Spiritual Insight
Keep your eyes focused straight ahead — don't get distracted by every shiny thing off to the side. A focused gaze leads to a focused life.
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Spiritual Insight
Think about where you're walking — be intentional about your path. A life without reflection tends to wander, but a considered path leads somewhere meaningful.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Spiritual Insight
Stay on the straight path — don't veer off to either side. Consistency in the right direction is more valuable than speed in the wrong one.
