Proverbs 第 14
KJV — King James Version · 35 節
Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
Spiritual Insight
A wise woman builds her home with care and intention. But foolishness can tear down in moments what took years to construct.
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
Spiritual Insight
Walking uprightly is actually an expression of reverence for God. A perverse way of living, at its core, is a rejection of Him.
In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Spiritual Insight
Proud words from a fool carry their own punishment. The lips of a wise person, however, are a shield that protects them.
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
Spiritual Insight
A spotless barn means no oxen are working. Real productivity comes with messiness—don't demand pristine conditions if you want real results.
A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
Spiritual Insight
An honest witness tells the truth simply because that's who they are. A dishonest one lies just as naturally—character determines speech.
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
Spiritual Insight
A scooner looks for wisdom but can't find it, because their attitude blocks understanding. For the willing learner, knowledge comes almost naturally.
Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
Spiritual Insight
If you're around someone and there's nothing wise in what they say, it's time to walk away. Don't waste your time where wisdom isn't welcome.
The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
Spiritual Insight
The wise person's greatest wisdom is understanding their own direction in life. The fool's greatest folly is being deceived about where they're headed.
Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
Spiritual Insight
Fools make light of sin as if it's no big deal. But among those who seek righteousness, there is grace and favor in abundance.
The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
Spiritual Insight
Some pain is so deeply personal that only your own heart truly knows it. Likewise, your deepest joys are yours alone—no outsider can fully share them.
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
Spiritual Insight
The household of the wicked, no matter how grand, will fall. But even the humble dwelling of the upright will thrive and flourish.
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Spiritual Insight
Just because a path feels right doesn't mean it is. Some of the most dangerous roads are the ones we chose because they seemed so reasonable at the time.
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
Spiritual Insight
Laughter doesn't always mean joy—sometimes it's a mask for a hurting heart. And the happiness we chase can end in heaviness when it's built on nothing real.
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
Spiritual Insight
A person who drifts from what is right gets filled with the consequences of their own choices. But a good person finds deep satisfaction that comes from within.
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
Spiritual Insight
Believing everything you hear without question is naive. The prudent person examines each step carefully before moving forward.
A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
Spiritual Insight
A wise person respects danger and steps away from it. A fool charges ahead boldly—confident in their own recklessness.
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
Spiritual Insight
Quick temper leads to foolish, regrettable actions. And a person known for scheming earns the distrust and hatred of those around them.
The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Spiritual Insight
The naive inherit foolishness as their default state. But those who are prudent earn for themselves a crown of knowledge.
The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
Spiritual Insight
In the end, evil will bow before good. The wicked will find themselves humbled before the very gates of the righteous.
The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
Spiritual Insight
It's a harsh truth: the poor are often shunned even by neighbors. But the rich never lack for company, fair-weather or not.
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
Spiritual Insight
Looking down on your neighbor is more than rude—it's sin. Showing mercy to the poor, on the other hand, brings genuine happiness.
Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
Spiritual Insight
Those who plot evil have strayed far from the right path. But mercy and truth await those who plan what is good.
In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
Spiritual Insight
All honest work produces something of value. Endless talking without action, however, leads only to poverty.
The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
Spiritual Insight
For the wise, their wisdom itself is like a crown—a source of true riches. The foolish only accumulate more foolishness.
A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
Spiritual Insight
A truthful witness can literally save lives with honest testimony. A deceitful witness, by lying, puts innocent people in danger.
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
Spiritual Insight
Reverence for God creates deep, unshakable confidence. And that security extends to your children—they find refuge under that same trust.
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Spiritual Insight
The fear of the Lord is like a fountain that sustains life itself. It steers you away from the deadly traps you might otherwise fall into.
In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
Spiritual Insight
A growing population is a king's glory. A dwindling one signals trouble for any leader. People are a nation's greatest resource.
He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
Spiritual Insight
Being slow to anger reveals a person of great understanding. A quick temper, however, puts foolishness on full display for all to see.
A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
Spiritual Insight
A peaceful, healthy heart is literally life to the body. Envy, on the other hand, corrodes you from the inside like rot in the bones.
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
Spiritual Insight
When you oppress the poor, you're insulting the God who made them. When you honor the poor with mercy, you're honoring your Creator Himself.
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
Spiritual Insight
The wicked, even in their final moments, are driven by their own sin. But the righteous face even death with hope, because their trust is in something greater.
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
Spiritual Insight
Wisdom quietly rests in the heart of someone who truly understands. But whatever fools are harboring inevitably spills out for everyone to see.
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Spiritual Insight
Righteousness lifts a nation to its highest potential. Sin, on the other hand, is a stain that drags any people down.
The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
Spiritual Insight
A wise servant earns the king's favor and trust. But one who causes shame will face the ruler's anger. Character shapes how power responds to you.
