Jude 第 1
KJV — King James Version · 25 節
Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
Spiritual Insight
Jude introduces himself not by pedigree but by position — a servant of Jesus Christ. He could have leaned on being James's brother, but he chose the humbler title. Notice too how he describes his readers: called, loved, and kept. Three anchors for your identity that no one can shake.
Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.
Spiritual Insight
Three gifts multiplied: mercy, peace, and love. Not just given once but lavishly poured out — multiplied. Jude doesn't ask God to give these for the first time; he asks for more of what's already been given. There's always room to grow in God's generosity.
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Spiritual Insight
Jude wanted to write a nice letter about salvation, but circumstances forced him to change course — he had to urge them to fight for the faith. Sometimes the most loving thing isn't a comfortable message but a urgent call to stand your ground when the truth is under attack.
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Spiritual Insight
Certain people slipped in unnoticed — like termites in a house's foundation. They took God's grace and twisted it into a license for sin, and denied the authority of Jesus Himself. The danger isn't always outside the church; sometimes it's already at the potluck table.
I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Spiritual Insight
Jude reaches back to the Exodus — God saved His people from Egypt, but later destroyed those who didn't believe. Salvation history isn't just a story of rescue; it's also a warning. Being part of the community doesn't automatically protect you if your heart walks away.
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Spiritual Insight
Even angels aren't exempt from judgment. Those who abandoned their proper dwelling are now kept in chains, waiting for the final verdict. Position and privilege — even heavenly ones — don't protect you when you rebel against God's order.
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Spiritual Insight
Sodom and Gomorrah stand as a permanent warning sign — suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Their story isn't ancient trivia; it's a flashing beacon. When a society gives itself over completely to sin, the consequences are both real and eternal.
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
Spiritual Insight
These false teachers reject every authority and slander celestial beings — all while claiming spiritual superiority. It's a familiar pattern: the people who reject accountability the loudest often position themselves as the most enlightened. Rejection of authority isn't freedom; it's rebellion dressed up as enlightenment.
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
Spiritual Insight
Even the archangel Michael, disputing with the devil over Moses' body, didn't dare bring a railing accusation — he simply said, "The Lord rebuke you." If an archangel shows that kind of restraint with the enemy, how much more should we guard our tongues?
But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
Spiritual Insight
These people speak arrogantly about things they don't understand, while the things they do understand by instinct lead them to corruption. It's a tragic irony — claiming to be wise while acting on animal instinct. Knowledge without the Spirit just makes you a smarter beast.
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
Spiritual Insight
Three warnings from history: Cain's jealousy, Balaam's greed, and Korah's rebellion. Each one chose a different path to destruction, but they all shared one thing — they put themselves above God's way. There are many roads to ruin, but they all start with "my way is better."
These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
Spiritual Insight
Jude's metaphors are devastating: hidden reefs at your love feasts, clouds without water, trees without fruit, uprooted and dead twice over. These aren't harmless participants — they're dangerous. Someone who looks the part but produces nothing good is worse than useless; they're a shipwreck waiting to happen.
Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
Spiritual Insight
The imagery continues: wild waves churning up shame, wandering stars heading for eternal darkness. There's a restless, chaotic quality to these false leaders — they never settle, never produce peace, and their destination is ultimate darkness. Avoid people who leave chaos in their wake.
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
Spiritual Insight
Enoch, way back from the seventh generation after Adam, already prophesied about these people. God's plan to deal with evil isn't a last-minute reaction — it's been foretold since the earliest chapters of human history. The Lord is coming with thousands of His holy ones.
To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Spiritual Insight
When the Lord comes, He will execute judgment on all — convicting the ungodly of every ungodly deed and every harsh word spoken against Him. Every act of rebellion and every defiant word will be addressed. Nothing falls through the cracks of divine justice.
These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
Spiritual Insight
Jude sketches a portrait of these people: grumblers, complainers, driven by lust, speaking inflated words, flattering people for advantage. It's a recognizable type — the person who's always dissatisfied, always angling for position. A grateful heart is the best defense against this poison.
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Spiritual Insight
After all the dark warnings, Jude says "but you, beloved" — and turns to his readers with warmth. Remember what the apostles told you, he says. In times of confusion, the antidote isn't new revelation; it's remembering what you've already been faithfully taught.
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
Spiritual Insight
The apostles had warned: in the last days, mockers will come, following their own ungodly desires. The existence of false teachers and scoffers shouldn't surprise us — it was predicted. Being forewarned means we can be prepared instead of panicked.
These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
Spiritual Insight
These people divide, operate on natural instincts, and lack the Spirit entirely. Division isn't just a personality clash — it can be a spiritual indicator. When someone consistently creates factions and shows no evidence of the Spirit's fruit, that's a red flag worth paying attention to.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Spiritual Insight
Now the positive charge: build yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. While false teachers tear down, believers are called to build up — themselves and each other. Spiritual growth isn't passive; it's active construction, fueled by prayer.
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Spiritual Insight
Three instructions in one verse: keep yourself in God's love, look for Christ's mercy, and aim for eternal life. It's a posture of both discipline and hope — staying rooted in love while looking forward with expectation. The Christian life faces both inward and upward simultaneously.
And of some have compassion, making a difference:
Spiritual Insight
Not everyone who struggles with doubt needs a rebuke — some need compassion. Jude recognizes that spiritual struggles come in different forms, and wisdom means knowing when to be gentle. Mercy toward the wavering is sometimes the very thing that steadies them.
And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
Spiritual Insight
But others need urgent rescue — snatch them from the fire. And even in that rescue, maintain a holy discomfort with sin: hate even the garment stained by the flesh. We can love people deeply while being clear-eyed about what sin does. Urgency and purity go hand in hand.
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
Spiritual Insight
What a breathtaking promise — He is able to keep you from falling and present you faultless before His glory with exceeding joy. The God who warned about judgment is also the God who can hold you steady. Your perseverance isn't solely your own effort; it's His power holding you.
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Spiritual Insight
The doxology closes the letter with a flourish — glory, majesty, power, and authority belong to God, now and forever. After all the warnings and battles, Jude lands on worship. When everything else is uncertain, this remains true: God is worthy, and His reign is eternal.
