John 第 21
KJV — King James Version · 25 節
After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus reveals Himself again — this time by the Sea of Galilee. He keeps showing up, even after the resurrection, meeting people in familiar places.
There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
Spiritual Insight
Seven disciples are named — a specific gathering of friends. These aren't random followers; they're the core group who had shared everything with Him.
Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
Spiritual Insight
Peter goes fishing and the others join him. Sometimes after huge life events, we go back to what we know. But that night, they caught nothing.
But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
Spiritual Insight
Morning comes and Jesus stands on the shore, but they don't recognize Him yet. How often does He show up in our ordinary moments and we miss Him?
Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
Spiritual Insight
'Children, do you have any fish?' Such a tender word — 'children.' He meets them in their failure with gentleness, not scolding.
And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
Spiritual Insight
Cast the net on the right side. Same lake, same nets, different side — that's all it took. Obedience to His word changes everything.
Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
Spiritual Insight
The beloved disciple recognizes Him first, and Peter can't even wait for the boat — he jumps in. Impulsive love, still beautifully Peter.
And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
Spiritual Insight
The others drag the heavy net behind the boat, doing the practical work. Faith has both the impulsive jumpers and the steady haulers — both needed.
As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
Spiritual Insight
A fire with fish and bread already waiting — Jesus prepared breakfast for them. The risen Lord cooks for His tired friends. What tender care.
Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
Spiritual Insight
'Bring some of the fish you've just caught.' Jesus already has fish, but He invites them to contribute. He includes us in what He's already provided.
Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
Spiritual Insight
153 large fish and the net didn't break. God's provision is abundant and sustainable — it holds together even when it's full beyond expectation.
Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
Spiritual Insight
'Come and eat.' No one dared ask who He was — they knew. The familiarity of sharing a meal with Jesus speaks louder than any explanation.
Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus serves them — takes bread, gives it to them, and fish too. The risen Christ is still a servant at heart. He never stops giving.
This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
Spiritual Insight
This was the third appearance. Jesus kept showing up — not just once, but repeatedly. He wants us to be sure He's really alive.
So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
Spiritual Insight
After breakfast, Jesus turns to Peter: 'Do you love Me more than these?' Three denials, three questions of love. Restoration is that specific.
He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Spiritual Insight
A second time: 'Do you love Me?' Peter must have winced. But Jesus isn't rubbing it in — He's rebuilding, one question at a time.
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Spiritual Insight
The third time hurts most — Peter is grieved. But Jesus meets his brokenness with a commission: 'Feed My sheep.' Broken people make good shepherds.
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus hints at Peter's future — freedom in youth, but limitation and ultimately death in old age. Following Jesus leads to glory, but through a cross.
This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
Spiritual Insight
He said this to show how Peter would glorify God through his death. Then simply: 'Follow Me.' Two words that contain everything.
Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
Spiritual Insight
Peter turns and sees John following — the one who leaned on Jesus' chest. Even in sacred moments, we're prone to glance sideways at others.
Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
Spiritual Insight
'What about him?' Peter asks. It's such a human question — we want to know our assignment compares to someone else's.
Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus' answer is beautifully blunt: 'What is that to you? You follow Me.' Your calling is yours alone — don't get distracted by comparison.
Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
Spiritual Insight
A rumor started from a misunderstanding — Jesus never said John wouldn't die. How often do we build theology on hearsay instead of His actual words?
This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
Spiritual Insight
The beloved disciple wrote these things, and his testimony is true. An insider's account, verified and trustworthy — the Gospel rests on real witness.
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
Spiritual Insight
If everything Jesus did were written down, the world couldn't contain the books. His story is bigger than any library — and He's still writing chapters in us.
