Revelation Capítulo 18

KJV — King James Version · 24 versículos

1

And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

Spiritual Insight

An angel descends with great power, and the earth is illuminated by his glory. Even in pronouncing judgment, God's glory shines brightly. Light and justice are not opposites—they are partners.

2

And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

Spiritual Insight

Babylon the great has fallen—become a haunt of demons and every unclean spirit. What was once magnificent is now ruins. The things the world celebrates can crumble in an instant.

3

For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Spiritual Insight

All nations drank her wine, merchants grew rich—global complicity in corruption. Economic prosperity built on injustice is not blessing but judgment in waiting. Check the source of your comfort.

4

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Spiritual Insight

Come out of her, my people! Don't share in her sins or plagues. God always provides an exit for His people. The call to separation is not isolation—it's salvation. Listen and step away.

5

For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

Spiritual Insight

Her sins have piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. Nothing is forgotten by God—not the good, not the evil. His memory is perfect, and His justice is sure.

6

Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

Spiritual Insight

Give her double for her deeds—measure for measure, cup for cup. God's justice is precise, not random. He weighs everything accurately. Trust that no wrong is overlooked.

7

How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

Spiritual Insight

She glorified herself and lived luxuriously, saying 'I am no widow.' Pride and self-sufficiency are the root of her fall. Humility is your safest position before God.

8

Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

Spiritual Insight

Plagues come in a single day—death, mourning, famine, fire. Sudden and complete. The things we think will last forever can vanish in a moment. Build your life on what endures.

9

And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,

Spiritual Insight

Kings who lived luxuriously with her now watch from afar, weeping. Fair-weather companions flee when judgment falls. Choose friends who stand with you in the fire, not just the feast.

10

Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

Spiritual Insight

Alas, alas, that great city—in one hour your judgment has come! The speed of Babylon's fall shocks even her allies. What seemed unshakeable proved fragile. Only God's kingdom is eternal.

11

And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

Spiritual Insight

Merchants weep because no one buys their cargo anymore—even commerce mourns the fall of corruption. When injustice is your business model, its collapse is your catastrophe. Do business with integrity.

12

The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,

Spiritual Insight

Gold, silver, precious stones, fine linen—a catalog of luxury. Material wealth in all its variety cannot save when God's judgment comes. The finest things money can buy are worthless without God.

13

And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

Spiritual Insight

Cinnamon, wine, oil, sheep, horses, chariots, slaves, souls of men. The list ends with the most devastating item—human beings traded as cargo. God sees every exploited person. Justice will come.

14

And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.

Spiritual Insight

The fruits your soul lusted after are gone—all your dainty and splendid things vanished. The things we crave most fiercely can disappear fastest. Let your deepest hunger be for God alone.

15

The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

Spiritual Insight

Merchants stand afar off, weeping—afraid of her torment but mourning their loss. Self-interest masquerading as grief. Check your motives when you weep—what are you really mourning?

16

And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

Spiritual Insight

Alas, alas, that great city clothed in fine linen and adorned with gold! The mourning focuses on lost beauty, not lost souls. When we value appearance over people, our priorities are upside down.

17

For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

Spiritual Insight

In one hour such great wealth is laid waste—the speed is staggering. Riches vanish like smoke. What you accumulate matters less than what you become. Invest in character, not just portfolio.

18

And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

Spiritual Insight

What city is like this great city! Even the sailors cry out in disbelief. The fall of the seemingly invincible shocks the world. But nothing built against God can stand forever.

19

And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

Spiritual Insight

They throw dust on their heads—ancient grief expressed for the loss of commerce. Their mourning is real but self-centered. True lament considers what was lost in human terms, not just economic ones.

20

Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

Spiritual Insight

Rejoice over her, heaven and saints and apostles! God has avenged you. There is a time to mourn and a time to celebrate justice done. Let this give you hope: every wrong will be righted.

21

And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

Spiritual Insight

A mighty angel throws a millstone into the sea—so will Babylon be thrown down, never to be found again. God's judgment is final and irreversible. What He removes stays removed.

22

And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

Spiritual Insight

No more music, no more craftsmen, no more millstone sounds—total silence where there was once bustling life. The absence of normal life is part of judgment. Treasure the sounds of daily life as gifts.

23

And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

Spiritual Insight

No more lamplight, no more bridegroom and bride—her merchants were earth's great men, and by sorcery all nations were deceived. Power and magic together led the world astray. Truth is your best defense against deception.

24

And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

Spiritual Insight

In her was found the blood of prophets, saints, and all slain on earth. The scope of her guilt is staggering. God keeps account of every drop of innocent blood. Justice will be thorough.
