2 Timothy Capítulo 1

KJV — King James Version · 18 versículos

1

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Spiritual Insight

Paul introduces himself not by his own merit but as an apostle by the will of God, anchored in the promise of life in Christ Jesus. Our identity is most secure when it's rooted in God's calling, not our achievements.

2

To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Spiritual Insight

Grace, mercy, and peace — Paul's greeting is actually a prayer in disguise. He stacks three gifts on top of each other, as if to say, 'You need all three, and God has all three ready for you.'

3

I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

Spiritual Insight

Paul serves God with a clear conscience and prays for Timothy day and night without stopping. That kind of consistent, faithful prayer for someone is one of the most powerful ways to love them.

4

Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

Spiritual Insight

Paul remembers Timothy's tears and longs to see him so he can be filled with joy. Real friendship involves both shared grief and shared joy. Paul isn't embarrassed to show deep emotion for someone he loves.

5

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Spiritual Insight

Timothy's sincere faith first lived in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Faith can be a family heritage passed down through generations. What a gift to grow up surrounded by people who genuinely trust God.

6

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Spiritual Insight

Paul urges Timothy to fan into flame the gift of God that is in him. Spiritual gifts aren't meant to sit dormant — they need to be stirred up, nurtured, and used. Don't let what God placed in you grow cold.

7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Spiritual Insight

God hasn't given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Fear makes us shrink back; God's Spirit gives us courage to move forward with strength, compassion, and clarity. This is our true equipment for life.

8

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

Spiritual Insight

Don't be ashamed of the gospel or of Paul in chains — instead, share in suffering for the gospel by God's power. It takes courage to stand with Jesus when it costs something. But the power we need is already available.

9

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Spiritual Insight

God saved us and called us to a holy life — not because of anything we've done, but because of His own purpose and grace, given before time began. Our calling is rooted in eternity, not in our performance.

10

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Spiritual Insight

Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. Death — humanity's oldest enemy — has been defeated. The gospel isn't just good advice; it's the announcement that death has lost its sting.

11

Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

Spiritual Insight

Paul was appointed as a preacher, apostle, and teacher for this very gospel. He knows his role and embraces it fully. When we understand what God has called us to do, it gives focus and purpose to everything else.

12

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Spiritual Insight

I suffer, but I'm not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and I'm convinced He is able to guard what I've entrusted to Him. Paul's confidence isn't in his circumstances but in the person of Christ. Knowing Jesus personally is the deepest security.

13

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Spiritual Insight

Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Doctrine isn't cold and lifeless — it's meant to be held in the warm embrace of faith and love. Truth becomes powerful when it's lived out in relationship with Jesus.

14

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Spiritual Insight

Guard the good deposit entrusted to you, through the Holy Spirit who lives in us. We don't guard God's truth alone — the Holy Spirit Himself dwells in us to help us keep what's precious. We have a divine Guardian working within.

15

This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Spiritual Insight

Everyone in Asia has turned away from Paul — even people he once invested in. Rejection from those you've loved and served is one of the deepest pains. Paul doesn't hide this hurt; he names it honestly.

16

The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

Spiritual Insight

Onesiphorus often refreshed Paul and was not ashamed of his chains. In a world where everyone else was distancing themselves, one man drew near. A single faithful friend can make all the difference in someone's darkest hour.

17

But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.

Spiritual Insight

When Onesiphorus was in Rome, he searched hard until he found Paul. He didn't just think about visiting — he actively pursued connection. True friendship shows up in the effort we make for each other.

18

The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Spiritual Insight

Paul prays that Onesiphorus will find mercy on that day, acknowledging all the ways he served in Ephesus. Gratitude for those who've helped us should be expressed both in prayer and in words. Paul remembers specific acts of kindness.
